Pheasant hunting can be a very exciting and entertaining adventure but as most of you know pheasants are very fast and agile animals so hunting them can be very difficult. With a little help from your dog you might end up catching a few of these animals.Here is a list of the most popular dogs used for pheasant hunting:
Basset Hound - The dog got its name from the French word “ bas ” which means low. A very old breed that descends from genetic dwarf dogs. The dog has a short-sized coat that is shiny and hard with chestnut/sand colored markings. One of the sweetest and devoted dogs in the world, they can adapt to the family life very easy. American Water Spaniel - The American Water Spaniel has a crisp-textured, tightly cured coat lined with a protective undercoat. The coat colors can be liver/chocolate and sometimes the dogs can have a small white spot on their chest. The dog has a medium-length muzzle that is smooth and square. Beagle - The dog carries its tail gaily but never curled over the back. When they are hunting, these dogs have a distinct howl. The Beagle is a sweet, curious and gentle dog that is always curious and simply loves everyone. A very sociable and intelligent dog that is excellent with children and good among other dogs but not so good among other non-canine pets. Clumber Spaniel - The breed was created in France around the year 1768 by one of the dukes of Noailles. Since then the dog has been used for hunting not only pheasant but also partridge. This breed was one of the earliest recognized breeds by the AKC. The Clumber Spaniel has a thick neck that is heavy and feathered at the throat. Mountain View Cur - The Mountain View Cur has a very good disposition and absolutely loves children. They are known to be very protective with family but also property. They will do everything in their power to please you. Although this dog was bred for hunting squirrel and raccoon, they are very efficient for boar hunting.
