Smooth Fox Terrier
General Facts :
The Smooth Fox Terrier is known to be one of the most elegant and smart dogs in the world. It has a short white coat with black/brown markings. The Fox Terrier’s tail is normally docked to ¼ its length and it usually stands on top of the dog. The dog’s skull is flat and narrow; it has dark and small eyes which are deep set and extremely lively. Regarding the dog’s neck, it is muscular and thick.
The Smooth Fox Terrier is “equipped” with many attack weapons like: well-developed teeth, very strong jaws, physical strength and courage. The dog is very well built concentrating a lot of strength in a small space. The dog is known to be one of the most energetic and courageous dogs from the Terrier family, also known for the fact that they are very good with children. A very cheerful and brave dog, the Smoort Fox Terrier is good at learning new tricks as well.
Origin :
This dog was officially recognized in 1876. The Smooth Fox Terrier and the Wirehaired are in many cases regarded as a single breed, although these two breeds were separated in the United States in 1984. Back in the days the Terriers were created crossing Dachshunds, English Hound, Fox Hound and the Beagle.

Height : Between 14 and 16 inches ( approximately 36 to 41 centimeters )
Weight : Between 15 an 20 pounds ( approximately 7 to 9 kilos )

The Smooth Fox Terrier is known to be very devoted & loyal and loves to be a part of the family. Keep in mind that this dog needs a lot of exercise, so it is advisable to take him out for long walks on a daily basis. If he isn’t exercised enough, the dog is literally destructive if kept indoors. The dog has many talents: hunting, watchdogging, agility, performing tricks and tracking.
Regarding the hunting aspect, these dogs can and will hunt other none K-9 animals like birds. If they are socialized properly they will get along just fine with other animals. They are known to be very good watchdogs and like to bark a lot. Their coat is easy to groom and should be brushed with a firm bristle brush. Regarding health issues, some minor concerns would be: lens luxation, cataracts, shoulder dislocation and post nasal drip. Their life expectancy is around 15 years.
