The internationally recognized Rick Smith Bird Dog Foundations Seminar comes to Montana on July 17-19, near Bozeman.
This is a hands-on, field based instructional weekend to which each student trainer takes his or her own dog(s).
Rick Smith is the son of famed trainer Delmar Smith. Rick and his cousin Ronnie Smith run a commercial hunting operation on a 45,000 acre ranch in South Texas, where they work up to 100 fully trained dogs a season.
The cousins have produced a series of very successful training videos and have appeared as featured guests on several hunting shows broadcast nationally on ESPN and OLN. Rick Smith is a featured writer for Pointing Dog Journal and other publications.
The foundation seminar teaches the concepts and methods of basic training in a simple hands-on format. It then moves on to cover yard and field training, preventing and correcting faults, bird work, natural and force retrieving.
The nuts and bolts of using the command lead, check cord and electronic training equipment are demonstrated.
Each technique is first presented to the group and then practiced in the field by the participant and his dog. Opportunity for individual instruction insures each step is mastered before moving on to more advanced work.
The foundation seminar begins with a Friday evening orientation and continues with two full days of instruction Saturday and Sunday in the field.
The seminar is unconditionally guaranteed. The $350 fee will be fully refunded if a student does not think he got his money’s worth.
The Montana Brittany Club and the Montana German Shorthaired Pointer Club are sponsoring the seminar. Reservations are limited, and strictly on a first come, first served basis.
Contact seminar host, Bob Myers of the Montana Brittany Club at 406-422-0213, or e-mail him at bobmyers@bresnan.net for information and enrollment.
